Clean Up Any Recording

Upload a recording and get clean audio back. Remove background noise, trim dead air, and match speaker levels. Free AI audio enhancer, no watermarks.

Try asking

The interview is good. The room is not. There is a fan running behind every answer, your guest is half the volume you are, and there are long gaps where someone was thinking. None of that is worth re-recording. All of it is worth fixing.

Upload the file and ask for it to be cleaned up. Chat Octopus takes out the constant background noise: fans, air conditioning, room hum, the steady layer you stopped hearing somewhere around the third listen. It does this with a gentle hand, deliberately. If you can hear the noise removal working, it has gone too far. A slightly noisy take that still sounds human beats a silent one that sounds like a robot, so a voice comes back sounding like a voice.

Then the levels. Your episode lands at the loudness podcast platforms expect, around -16 LUFS integrated, so nobody reaches for the volume knob between your show and the next one. Two speakers get matched to each other first, so the quiet guest comes up to meet the loud host. Dead air gets tightened: pauses longer than about 700 milliseconds come down to roughly 300, while natural breaths stay where they are. A light EQ pass rolls off the low rumble below 80 Hz, softens harsh S sounds, and brings the voice forward if it sounds dull.

What you get back depends on what you sent. Upload a video and the same video comes back as an MP4 with the cleaned audio laid in. Upload audio and you get an MP3. Nothing gets cut that you did not ask for: the only thing that changes the length is the silence trimming. Ask it to skip that and the duration matches your original exactly, so your existing timestamps still line up. No watermarks, and it is free during beta.

It is one thread, so you can steer it. "Back off the noise removal, the voice sounds thin." "Tighten the pauses more." Nothing gets re-uploaded. Once the audio is clean you can keep going in the same conversation: transcribe it, pull show notes out of it, cut it into clips, or lay a music bed underneath. The cleanup is tuned for spoken word, so podcasts, interviews, and voiceovers are where it does its best work.

How it works

Noise comes out, levels get balanced, dead air gets trimmed

3

Download the cleaned MP3, or your video with the audio laid back in

Frequently asked questions

The steady kind: fans, air conditioning, room hum, computer whine, the constant hiss of a bad room. It also takes a pass at clicks, pops, and mouth noises. It is built for noise that runs underneath the whole recording rather than one-off sounds like a door slam.

Both. Upload a video and you get the same video back as an MP4 with the cleaned audio laid in. Upload an audio file and you get an MP3.

No. Chat Octopus cleans up a voice recording. It does not split a finished mix into stems, isolate vocals from a music bed, or pull one speaker out of overlapping voices. For that you want a dedicated stem separation tool.

That is the rule the cleanup follows. If the noise removal is audible, it has gone too far and it backs off. If a take still sounds over-processed to you, say so in the same thread and ask for a lighter touch. No re-upload needed.

No. The processing is tuned for spoken word: podcasts, interviews, voiceovers, and talking-head video. Music needs different treatment, and the cleanup is not built for it.
